Overview

We are looking for a new member of the team to step into a Duty Manager (DM) role, developing and maintaining our busy bouldering centre so that our customers have a safe and engaging environment to climb in. 

As well as performing routine maintenance, the DM (Operations) will be responsible for managing our routesetting supplies and processes. They will assist with larger maintenance and building projects, and also form part of our Customer Experience team, working on Reception. 

One of five Duty Managers and led by our Head of Facilities, our Operations DM will be part of the core team responsible for the safe day-to-day delivery of our products and services. As such, we are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual who feels confident in their ability to take the lead and who shares our desire to expand and nurture our community. 

Position Details

This position is offered on a full-time basis with a pro-rata working time that averages to 20 hours per week over a 4-week rotation.

4-week rotation schedule

Week 1

  • Mon: Duty Manager (5:00pm–10:15pm)
  • Tues: Duty Manager (9:30am–6pm)
  • Weds: Off
  • Thurs: Off
  • Fri: Off
  • Sat: Duty Manager (9:30am–6:15pm)
  • Sun: Duty Manager (9:30am–6:30pm)

Week 2

  • Mon: Duty Manager (5:00pm–10:15pm)
  • Tues: Duty Manager (9:30am–6pm)
  • Weds: Busy Work (5 hours, flexible)
  • Thurs–Sun: Off

Week 3

  • Mon: Duty Manager (5:00pm–10:15pm)
  • Tues: Duty Manager (9:30am–6pm)
  • Weds: Busy Work (5.25 hours, flexible)
  • Thurs–Sun: Off

Week 4

  • Mon: Duty Manager (5:00pm–10:15pm)
  • Tues: Duty Manager (9:30am–6pm)
  • Weds–Sun: Off

Salary & Holiday

  • Full-time salary: £25,000 – £27,000
  • Holiday: 33 days per year

(Pro-rata adjustments apply based on working hours)

Accountabilities

Strategic: Our DM (Operations) is responsible for the development of our maintenance and wall reset processes, ensuring that our facilities and resets run smoothly. As a member of our customer-facing team, they will also assist with the development of our “Front of House” processes in order that our customers receive the best possible experience. 

Tactical: The Operations side of this role involves performing routine maintenance tasks and health & safety checks around the centre, as well as keeping our hold store, routesetting supplies, and hold-washing area stocked and organised. With the operations role, general maintenance, design and workshop use will be carried out, creating the products and environment that our customers interact with. The customer-facing element of the role will include ensuring that our customers are served in a friendly manner, whether they are here to climb, shop, or grab a bite to eat from our Coffee Bar.

Profile

Necessary Skills and Attributes 

We are looking for someone who has strong initiative and the ability to solve problems creatively and effectively. The Duty Manager (Operations) should have the confidence to be able to work independently and take the lead during their DM shifts, while also being able to work effectively as a member of the team. They should also: 

  • Be practically-minded 
  • Have previous experience in a customer-facing role 
  • Be driven and motivated 
  • Have strong organisational skills 
  • Have a good sense of humour 
  • Be able to adapt in changing situations 

Advantageous Skills and Attributes 

  • Previous climbing experience 
  • Previous experience using a variety of hand and power tools 
  • A current First Aid certificate
