Who Can Climb at The Project Climbing Centre?
Okay, everyone above 4 years old. However our in-house neighbours, The Parkour Project, do run sessions suitable for under 4s, so contact them for more details!
If you are hoping to bring U18s to climb, please see T&Cs below to avoid disappointment!
New to climbing?
You don’t need to be an experienced climber to enjoy bouldering. However, if you’re not already a competent climber you’ll need to either come with a friend who is an experienced climber or book onto one of our Bouldering Induction Courses to learn how to boulder safely and make the most of the bouldering we offer.
If you are already a competent climber*, you can register online before you come in or just sign up when you get here. There is a £3 one-off fee to register at The Project Climbing Centre.
Please make sure to read our Conditions of Use and Code of Practice carefully because we'll quiz you to make sure you’ve read them when you register! If you want a preview, you can read them here.
TOP TIP: During busy periods (evenings and weekends), there can be up to a 20 minute wait to register in reception. For these occasions we recommend registering online
Novice and U18 supervision
If you are supervising a maximum of two novice adult climbers or U18s you must sign them in at reception and supervise them in the climbing hall at all times. Novice climbers may not climb in the centre unless their supervisor is with them or they are on an instructed course. You must not supervise more than two people; that includes novice adult climbers or U18s or a combination thereof.
If you're under 18 you'll need to be supervised by a competent registered adult climber* and so you'll either need to convince mum or dad to get involved or join one of our Instructed Sessions (ages 7-13).
*If you are unsure of what this entails please give us a ring! Registered adult climbers can supervise a maximum of 2 under 18s (aged 4+) at a time.
14-17 year olds may climb unsupervised once they've passed their Junior Sign-Off.
We're more than happy for external instructors to bring groups to The Project Climbing Centre. If you wish to use our Centre as a venue for your clients/groups we require copies of EACH of the following documents:
Valid first aid certificate
Public liability insurance documents
Cost for external groups £5 per head (the instructors/coaches climbing for free)
We work on a 1:9 ratio for all groups, if you have a larger group you will need to ensure you have enough instructors / assistant instructors.
You will be asked to fill out a supervision form for every group/client you bring in.
Can people with disabilities climb? Yes, definitely. Britain actually boasts a paraclimbing world champion, an amputee Mountain Leader and a qualified climbing wall instructor with cerebral palsy. Above all, it’s a really supportive community for those wishing to try out the sport. Particularly for children with learning disabilities, climbing is a creative way to encourage concentration and confidence. However, if you have any queries please email us or give us a call!
